Ethernet Port Not Working? Cable, Driver or Hardware Fault
An Ethernet port that stops working can interrupt office work, gaming, backups and POS systems. The cause may be simple, such as a damaged cable, or more involved, such as a driver fault, docking station issue or damaged network controller.
Start by testing the cable with another device and trying another router or switch port. Look for link lights near the port if the device has them. If a laptop uses a USB or USB-C Ethernet adapter, test that adapter separately.
Windows can be part of the issue
Driver updates, network profile changes and power management settings can all affect Ethernet. If Wi-Fi works but Ethernet does not, the internet service may be fine while the local wired path has a problem.
For desktops, recent moves or cleaning can loosen internal cards or damage cables. For laptops, liquid exposure near USB-C or dock ports can affect network adapters.
Business reliability matters
For payment terminals, office file access or backups, wired network stability is important. Guessing with random adapters can create a temporary workaround while the original issue remains.
AEPC / AKL East PC can check computer-side Ethernet and network hardware issues in Auckland. Bring the adapter or dock if one is involved.
