Cleaning a Gaming PC Safely: Dust, Fans and Static Care
A dusty gaming PC can run hotter, louder and less reliably. Cleaning helps, but it should be done carefully. Blasting air into a case without checking fans, cables and filters can create new problems.
Power the PC off and unplug it before cleaning. Hold fans still when using air so they do not spin beyond their normal range. Avoid touching exposed components unnecessarily, and do not use household vacuum nozzles directly on boards.
Look beyond the visible dust
Front filters, heatsink fins, graphics card fans and power supply intake areas collect dust differently. A case can look tidy from one angle while airflow is blocked behind a panel. Cable clutter can also restrict airflow in smaller builds.
If the PC is already shutting down, crashing or smelling hot, cleaning alone may not be enough. Temperature testing and fan inspection may be needed.
After cleaning
Check that all fans spin normally and cables are still seated. Watch temperatures under normal use before returning to heavy gaming.
