GPU Driver Black Screen: Software Conflict or Hardware Warning?
A black screen after a graphics driver update can be a driver problem, but it can also reveal hardware instability. The screen may go black during installation, after restart, or under gaming load. The pattern matters.
Try to determine whether the computer is still running. Do keyboard lights respond? Does sound continue? Does another monitor output work? These clues help separate display output from full system crash.
Check simple paths first
Use one monitor, one cable and one output if possible. Remove unnecessary adapters. If a desktop has both motherboard and GPU display ports, confirm the monitor is connected to the intended output.
Safe Mode may help remove or roll back a driver, but repeated forced shutdowns can damage Windows files. If the PC also shuts down under load, power and heat should be checked.
When hardware diagnosis is needed
Artifacts, lines, crashes under load, fan problems and power connector issues can point beyond software.
