Microphone Not Working for Video Calls? Start With the Right Checks
Microphone problems often appear suddenly during a meeting, class or customer call. The computer may hear nothing, record very quietly, or use the wrong input device. Before assuming the microphone is broken, check whether the issue happens in every app.
Windows privacy settings, browser permissions and meeting app device selection are common causes. A headset microphone may also fail because of the adapter, port or Bluetooth connection rather than the computer microphone.
Separate built-in and external audio
Test the built-in microphone, a wired headset and Bluetooth if available. If one works and another fails, the fault path becomes clearer. If no input works, drivers, Windows audio services or board-level audio hardware may need checking.
Liquid damage near the keyboard, palm rest or ports can affect internal microphones and audio circuits. Mention any spill, drop or recent repair.
Do not delete drivers blindly
Audio driver removal can help in some cases, but it can also make troubleshooting harder if the wrong package is installed afterward.
