Gaming Laptop High-Power DC Input: Open input protection fuse | Auckland
Pattern to record: Adapter voltage reaches the board side of the connector but not the protected rail.
Identify the input design
A gaming laptop may run normally at the desktop yet exceed the available adapter power during a combined CPU and GPU workload. Record the original adapter model and whether the failure occurs while gaming, charging, or both. One possible explanation is that the sacrificial fuse has interrupted power after an overload or downstream short.
Stop before further damage
Do not continue a graphics load when the plug, jack or cable is overheating. Bypassing a fuse removes an important fire and board-damage safeguard.
Workshop checks
- Use the correct wattage adapter, monitor input stability under a controlled load and inspect the jack and cable for heat damage.
- Test the fuse electrically and check the downstream rail for a short before replacing it.
Repair and power verification
If the checks support this cause, repair the cause of overcurrent, then fit the correct rated protection component. Verification should cover idle charging, combined processor and graphics load, connector temperature and restart.
