Gaming PC UEFI Configuration: Incorrect storage controller mode | Auckland
Pattern to record: The operating system becomes inaccessible immediately after a setting change.
Record the boot configuration
Separate a stock configuration from memory profiles, CPU tuning and GPU changes. A boot fault that began after tuning should first be reproduced at supported defaults, without increasing voltage to make POST succeed. One possible explanation is that AHCI, RAID or vendor storage settings no longer match the installed driver.
Preserve recovery options
Unstable overclocking can corrupt data and should not be used during diagnosis. Switching modes repeatedly can confuse diagnosis but does not repair a failing drive.
Firmware and hardware checks
- Return to documented baseline settings and test one hardware group at a time.
- Record the original controller mode and confirm drive visibility before Windows repair.
Recovery and startup checks
If the checks support this cause, restore the matching mode or prepare the correct driver transition safely. Verification should cover repeated cold boots, memory load, graphics initialisation, restart and sleep.
