Desktop Label Printer Media Path: Platen grip and roll feeding
Pattern to record: The drive turns but the roll slips or advances unevenly.
Locate the feed stage
Labels must match the printer’s gap, black-mark or continuous-media sensing mode. Record stock width, liner and roll orientation before calibration; label adhesive can contaminate the platen and sensor path. A worn or contaminated platen can lose traction on supported roll media; stacked-sheet pickup terminology does not describe every roll-fed printer.
Feed-path checks
- Confirm label type and calibration, then inspect guides, platen and sensors.
- Inspect the model’s platen and media route and compare fresh supported stock with the correct cover closure.
Before inspecting the mechanism
Adhesive residue should be removed with the printer powered off. Aggressive solvents can damage the platen surface or printhead.
Correct the confirmed cause
If the checks support this cause, clean only as specified or replace the confirmed worn platen or drive part. Verification should cover single labels, batch labels, gap detection, calibration and clean exit.
