Review iPhone Mirroring Access and Notifications Before Using It on a Shared Mac
iPhone Mirroring makes phone applications usable from the Mac, so setup deserves an access decision as well as a connection test. Think about who can use the Mac’s unlocked session and which phone notifications should appear there.
Apple requires macOS Sequoia 15 or later on an Apple silicon or T2-equipped Mac, plus an iPhone using iOS 18 or later with a passcode. Both need the same Apple Account with two-factor authentication and enabled Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The iPhone must be nearby and locked; the Mac must not be using AirPlay, Sidecar or internet sharing. Check regional availability in Apple’s current guide.
Choose authentication consciously
Open iPhone Mirroring on the Mac and follow the setup prompts. In its settings, Ask every time requires authentication before mirroring; Authenticate automatically removes that repeated request. Select the behaviour appropriate for the Mac’s actual users.
Use a harmless phone application for the first session. Confirm which iPhone is connected and inspect the information visible in the mirrored window. Keep private conversations out of a demonstration or shared-screen session.
Apple notes that the iPhone camera and microphone are unavailable through mirroring. Do not treat a missing camera function inside a mirrored app as proof that the phone camera has failed.
Check what continues after the window closes
Quit iPhone Mirroring or unlock the iPhone to stop the session. Then review the Mac’s iPhone notification settings: Apple says those notifications can continue when mirroring is not active or the iPhone is not nearby, provided the phone is on.
This makes closing the window a different action from changing notification access. Use a harmless expected alert to check what appears on the Mac and whether its content suits the surroundings.
If the relationship is no longer wanted, Apple provides Revoke iPhone Access in mirroring settings. Review that option deliberately rather than assuming an application window’s close button removes setup.
Keep the access choice with the Mac’s handover notes. Recheck it when the computer’s users change, because a convenient personal-device arrangement may no longer fit the new working environment.
