Collect Files With a Microsoft 365 Upload Request
For a defined collection of documents, a file-request link can let people upload without seeing the folder’s existing contents. This differs from giving them ordinary edit access to a shared folder. Confirm that the upload-only behaviour fits the task before distributing the link.
Microsoft offers this feature in supported OneDrive for Business or SharePoint environments when the administrator enables it. It is not a OneDrive home feature. If Request files is missing, ask the administrator about the supported configuration rather than widening the organisation’s sharing settings on your own.
Create a focused collection
Choose a folder for the particular collection and give the request a clear description of the files needed. Use the Request files action and review the resulting link before sending an approved invitation. Anyone holding that link can upload, so control where it is distributed.
Uploaders cannot browse, edit, delete or download the folder’s other contents through the request. However, a name typed by an unsigned-in uploader is not verified identity. Match important submissions to the expected person through the business’s established process rather than trusting the filename prefix alone.
Test and close the request
Use a harmless sample file from a separate session representing a recipient. Confirm the upload succeeds and that the session cannot browse existing folder content. As the collection owner, find and open the uploaded file and verify its intended destination.
Try a duplicate sample filename during the rehearsal. Microsoft adds a number for duplicate names, so staff should know how they will recognise a corrected submission instead of treating the first file as automatically final.
When collection ends, delete the request link through the folder’s Manage Access controls and verify the old link no longer accepts uploads. Link deletion cannot be undone; reopening the collection requires a new request. Keep the received records according to the agreed business process rather than leaving an old intake link active indefinitely.
