Resolve a Synology Drive Conflict Copy Before Changing the Sync Rule
A Synology Drive Client conflict copy can contain work that is absent from the document people are currently opening. Do not remove it just because its filename looks untidy. Begin by identifying the affected sync task, the original document and the people who edited it on different computers.
Drive Client's conflict settings determine what happens when competing changes meet. Synology documents choices including keeping the latest modified version or keeping the server version, with an option to rename the discarded version. A conflict filename can include the computer name and modification date. These details help trace an edit, but they do not decide which business content is correct.
Preserve the competing content
Ask the editors to stop changing this document while the versions are compared. Copy the relevant files into a clearly labelled comparison location outside the active sync task, preserving the original names in your notes. Avoid repeatedly renaming the files inside the shared task while another editor is still working.
Open each copy in the normal application. Compare the actual changes: a corrected amount, a new paragraph, a missing sheet or an updated drawing layer. The later timestamp may belong to a minor edit while an earlier copy contains substantial work. Record whose changes need to survive.
If the document requires a merge, let the owner prepare a combined version from the preserved copies. Check the merged content before returning it to the agreed working location. Keep the comparison set until the owner confirms that the intended edits are present and other clients have received the accepted version.
Review future conflict behaviour separately
Inspect the existing policy in Drive Client's general settings and record whether discarded-version renaming is enabled. Changing that policy governs future conflict handling; it does not automatically merge the current documents or recover work that has already been discarded.
For a frequently contested file, agree who edits it and how handover occurs. Then test the revised workflow using disposable documents before relying on it for live work. A quiet sync status confirms less than a content review: the final acceptance is that the right edits are present on the intended computers, with the conflicting copies accounted for.
