USB Webcam System: USB bandwidth contention | Auckland
Pattern to record: Video freezes when storage, docks or other cameras become active.
Trace video, input and output separately
Identify the USB webcam selected in the call application and test video separately from any built-in microphone. Bluetooth headset audio is a different path and does not explain USB camera capture failure by itself. One possible explanation is that multiple devices exceed the host path's practical data capacity.
Compare the failing connection
- Compare another USB port and application, check privacy permission and test sustained capture.
- Test the device alone on a direct capable port and review USB topology.
Before changing the setup
Disconnect any cable with crushed insulation or an overheating camera. Adding another hub can worsen contention.
Restore the intended function
If the checks support this cause, move high-bandwidth devices to independent supported controllers. Verification should cover video, microphone if fitted, multiple applications, sleep and a sustained call.
