Arrange Two Mac Displays So the Pointer Goes Where You Expect
If the pointer appears on the wrong side of a second screen, the physical desk and macOS display arrangement may disagree. You can correct that without moving cables or changing the monitor itself.
Choose what the second screen should show
Open System Settings and Displays. Select the relevant display and check its Use As setting. Mirroring shows matching content; extending creates additional desktop space. Choose the mode that fits the task before adjusting the arrangement.
For normal desk work, an extended desktop lets you keep different windows on each display. Mirroring may be appropriate when someone else needs to see the same presentation. Neither choice is evidence that the hardware is better or worse.
Use Arrange to position the display representations as they sit on the desk. If one screen is physically higher, reflect that relationship. Then move the pointer across the joining edges and confirm that the transition feels natural.
Adjust the display you are actually viewing
Select each screen in turn before changing its resolution or scaling. Apple's available options vary with the Mac and connected display. Start with the default choice, then try a supported larger-text setting if menus are difficult to read.
Do not judge the setup only by how much content fits on screen. Open the documents you normally use and compare readability, pointer travel and where dialogue boxes appear. If you need one screen to act as the primary workspace, review the main-display option.
Keep a note of the original setting before experimenting. If an unfamiliar mode makes the display hard to use, return to a known working selection instead of changing multiple connection components at once.
Finally, reconnect the usual dock and perform a normal sleep and wake. Confirm that windows and pointer movement remain manageable in the arrangement you will actually use, not just in a one-off test.
