Bluetooth Headset Connection: Why sound changes when the headset microphone opens
Pattern to record: Music quality changes as soon as a call opens the headset microphone.
Trace video, input and output separately
Record whether the headset uses the computer’s Bluetooth radio or a dedicated USB adapter. Compare media playback with microphone-active calls, since the active audio mode and available quality can differ. Bluetooth Classic commonly switches from media playback to a call profile when the microphone is active; that quality change alone is not proof of a fault.
Compare the failing connection
- Compare headset profiles, another host, interference and driver state.
- Check the operating system, headset capabilities and active input/output; compare microphone-active calls with playback-only use.
Before changing the setup
Do not reset workplace-managed devices before recording pairing information. Classic audio behaviour must not be assumed to describe every Bluetooth LE Audio device.
Restore the intended function
If the checks support this cause, choose a supported call configuration or a separate microphone if appropriate; investigate a driver fault only if behaviour contradicts the documented capabilities. Verification should cover media audio, call audio, microphone, range, sleep and reconnection.
