Connect a Vendor Web Tool to the Correct USB Device and Revoke Access Afterwards
Some vendor tools configure an accessory directly from a web page. Chrome can connect a site to supported USB, Serial or HID devices, but the browser’s ability to pair does not establish that the page is the right tool for your particular model.
Confirm the site and device first
Reach the tool through the manufacturer’s verified support pages. Compare the supported model with the label on the accessory, and read whether the operation is inspection, configuration or firmware programming. Follow the manufacturer’s preparation requirements before starting any operation that can change the device.
Use the appropriate cable and remove unrelated similar accessories when doing so is safe. If a dock also carries storage, save work and eject the storage before disconnecting it. A shorter, recognisable device list reduces the chance of choosing the wrong target.
Initiate the connection from the web tool. Chrome displays a chooser for available devices; select the intended entry and choose Pair or Connect. If the entry is ambiguous, stop and identify it rather than trying each device in turn.
Verify the browser-to-device relationship
Check that the web tool reports the expected model or identifier before using a write or update function. A successful pairing is only the communication step. It does not confirm that a proposed configuration or firmware image is suitable.
Google cautions that website device access can expose device information and permit reprogramming. Keep access limited to a trusted tool with a clear purpose. On a managed computer, report a policy block to the administrator instead of changing unrelated browser security settings.
After the documented task completes and the device is safe to disconnect, open the site-information control beside the address. Remove the corresponding USB device, Serial port or HID device permission. Revisit the tool only if needed and confirm it no longer has the previous grant. Keep any completion report from the vendor’s tool separately from the fact that browser pairing succeeded.
