Check an Old Business Portal in Edge IE Mode With the Correct Current Entry Point
An older internal portal may have documented dependencies on Internet Explorer technology. Confirm that requirement with the system owner before changing browsers. A page failing to load is not, by itself, evidence that it needs legacy compatibility.
Identify the supported route
On the organisation’s Windows computer, record the Edge version and whether the browser is managed. Microsoft documents different entry points for managed environments and newer non-enterprise installations. That explains why an older screenshot’s menu may not match your current browser.
For managed devices, the organisation can configure an Enterprise Site List. The Reload in Internet Explorer mode action may be unavailable unless its policy permits it. Give the administrator the precise portal address and failed function instead of trying to remove the control.
For a supported non-enterprise setup using Edge 141 or later, Microsoft’s current guidance uses Settings, Default Browser, then Add a page under Internet Explorer mode pages. Add only the specific site whose owner requires this compatibility and reload it. Review the compatibility setting and any restart request shown by Edge.
Test the business function, then leave
Use a harmless record to compare the failing operation: opening a legacy form, viewing a report or reaching a required control. Record whether that exact function works in IE mode. A correctly displayed home page does not prove that saving, downloading or printing through the portal works.
Keep ordinary browsing outside the compatibility test. Microsoft documents leaving IE mode through its information bar or by closing the tab and opening a new one. Check that your usual workflow resumes as expected.
Internet Explorer itself is no longer supported. Treat IE mode as a specific compatibility arrangement whose owner should maintain a migration plan, not a reason to install obsolete browser packages from third-party sites. If the documented portal still fails, provide the version, mode and exact operation to its maintainer rather than widening the exception to unrelated websites.
