High-Refresh Gaming Monitor: Monitor thermal shutdown | Auckland
Pattern to record: The display works from cold and turns off after a repeatable period.
Separate the panel from the source
Record resolution, refresh rate, colour mode and whether variable refresh is enabled. These determine link demand. Backlight and LCD edge-bond checks below apply only to LCD models, not to an OLED display. One possible explanation is that a component or blocked airflow reaches its protection temperature.
Display-path checks
- Compare native and lower refresh rates, different certified cables and another graphics source.
- Record temperature and operating time at controlled brightness.
Handling and electrical safety
Stop testing if the monitor emits a burning smell or flashes from its power section. Covering vents for testing can create further damage.
Image and input verification
If the checks support this cause, repair cooling, the heat-sensitive component or its supply stage. Verification should cover native refresh, lower refresh, variable refresh, colour, sleep and sustained gaming.
