Export a Calc CSV That Matches the Receiving System
A CSV is a data-exchange file, not a replacement for a multi-sheet Calc workbook. Before exporting, obtain the receiving system’s requirements: column order, field delimiter, text quoting, character encoding and the expected representation of dates and amounts.
Save the working spreadsheet in its normal format first. Use a separate export name and select the sheet that contains the intended records. LibreOffice’s CSV guidance states that only the current sheet is exported, so do not expect the other tabs to accompany it.
Set the export options for the destination
In desktop Calc, choose File, Save As, select Text CSV and enable Edit filter settings. The text-export dialog lets you set the character set, field delimiter and text delimiter.
Review Save cell content as shown. When enabled, it saves displayed content including number formatting; LibreOffice warns that some resulting representations may no longer be interpreted as numeric on import. Choose according to the receiver’s specification rather than assuming the visible currency or date format is acceptable.
Do not choose fixed-width output for a normal delimited-file requirement. LibreOffice documents that fixed-width export can truncate long text or write number-sign placeholders when values do not fit the column width.
Test a small, representative export
Use fictional sample records that include an accented name, a delimiter character inside a text field, a date and an amount. Inspect the exported text and import it into a test area of the destination application.
Confirm that each record produces the expected number of fields and that the characters and values retain their meaning. A file opening without an error does not prove that columns were interpreted correctly.
For the final export, check the record count and reconcile key identifiers and totals with the source sheet. Retain the original workbook with its formulas, formatting and other tabs. Document the accepted export settings so the next file follows the same data contract instead of depending on whichever options were last used.
