Check an Automator Quick Action’s Input Before Expecting It in Finder
A Quick Action’s absence from Finder may reflect the type of input it expects. A service designed for selected text is a different workflow from one designed to process selected files. Establish that distinction before reinstalling anything.
These checks use the Automator guide for macOS Sequoia 15. Open your own existing Quick Action in Automator and preserve a copy before changing its definition. Do not run an unfamiliar downloaded workflow simply to see whether its menu appears.
Read the input contract
Inspect Workflow receives current at the top of the workflow. Apple states that only Quick Actions receiving files as input are available in Finder windows. Automatic asks Automator to infer the input type; make sure that inference fits the actual task.
Also inspect the Application choice. Apple notes that the relevant application must be open for the workflow to be available. Check the app and input expected by the workflow together, rather than comparing menus in unrelated contexts.
If the actions genuinely process files, correct the input definition to match them and save with File, Save. Do not relabel a text-processing workflow as a file workflow merely to make it appear; its actions still need compatible input.
Separate menu visibility from correct execution
Return to Finder and select a disposable copy of a suitable file. Check the Quick Actions or Action menu in that context. If the workflow now appears, inspect its actions and destination before running it on the sample.
Verify the sample result and confirm that the original remained where expected. A visible menu entry proves availability, not that a rename, conversion or other action will process a large selection correctly.
If the definition already matches the intended files but the action remains absent, record the macOS version, application scope and selected file type for further investigation. Avoid broad privacy or security changes without evidence that those controls are involved.
