Export the Intended GarageBand Range Without Accidentally Using a Practice Loop
A practice loop can be useful while editing and surprising when it becomes the exported range. Before producing a listening file, decide whether the deliverable is the entire GarageBand project or one clearly defined passage.
Save the project and give the export a name that includes its purpose. Write down the first and last sound that should be present. Those content boundaries are easier to verify than relying only on an approximate duration.
Check Cycle mode and selection
In GarageBand for Mac, an active cycle area appears as a yellow strip in the ruler. The Cycle button or C key turns the mode on and off. Drag the strip’s edges to adjust its boundaries when a specific passage is intended.
Choose Share, Export Song to Disk. The range checkbox uses the cycle area when Cycle is on, or the selected regions when Cycle is off. For a whole-project export, leave that range-limiting checkbox clear. Do not assume that turning Cycle off alone removes a limit while the checkbox and a region selection remain relevant.
Choose the required format, quality, filename and destination, then export. Apple lists AAC, MP3, AIFF and WAVE. Its guide also states that silence at the beginning or end is trimmed, so do not promise exact leading or trailing silence without checking the output.
Listen to the saved result
Open the exported file outside the project. Confirm the opening sound, the intended ending and a section beyond the former practice loop. If you intended an extract, verify that it starts and stops at the agreed musical or spoken boundaries.
For spoken material, listen for a clipped first consonant or an unfinished sentence at the end. For music, inspect the final audible decay. These checks concern the deliverable’s content, not merely whether an audio file exists.
If the range is wrong, return to the saved project and correct the export selection. Keep the editable project: the audio export is a listening version, and should not replace the source needed for later changes to individual tracks.
