Mac mini Startup Power System: Debris or damage at the power connection
Pattern to record: The power lead does not seat normally or there is visible damage around the inlet.
Use the correct Mac power design
Identify the Mac mini generation and its specified power connection. Recent models use a mains lead; older designs may use an external supply. The USB-C ports are not a substitute for the desktop’s power input. Contamination or damage at the model’s actual power connector may prevent secure electrical contact.
Power and data precautions
Mains-powered supplies contain hazardous sections and retained charge. Do not clean inside a live mains inlet or push metal tools into it.
Model-specific checks
- Verify the model-specific power lead or external supply, then separate power, startup and display-output stages.
- Disconnect the supply and inspect the correct power connector externally; distinguish it from USB-C accessory ports.
Repair and startup verification
If the checks support this cause, replace a damaged lead or have the inlet assessed before further use. Verification should cover cold and warm start, all display outputs, USB load, sleep and sustained operation.
