Reserve a Network Printer Address Without Guessing an Unused IP
A printer's network address can change when it receives a new DHCP lease. If a print setup depends on a specific address, a reservation at the DHCP server can make that relationship predictable. First confirm that an address change is the problem rather than a paused queue or a disconnected printer.
Print or view the printer's network status page and compare its current address with the router's client list. Record the network interface in use. A printer with both Ethernet and Wi-Fi can have different hardware addresses for those interfaces; reserving the unused one will not stabilise the active connection.
Let the address manager make the assignment
In the TP-Link router interface covered by the cited guide, find DHCP Server and Address Reservation under Network or Advanced, Network. Add the intended device hardware address and an appropriate address on the router's LAN subnet. Confirm that the entry is enabled.
Check existing reservations and other documented fixed addresses before choosing a value. An address that happens not to answer a test is not proof that it is unassigned. On a managed office network, have the administrator allocate it from the address plan.
Leave the printer configured to obtain its address through DHCP when using this arrangement. A manually configured address inside the printer is a separate mechanism and can bypass the reservation you are trying to test.
Verify the next lease and the print path
Follow the exact model's instructions for applying the change. Some router instructions require a reboot, so arrange any interruption instead of restarting the office network during active work. Renew the printer's connection as directed and check its status page again.
Confirm the expected address in both the printer and client list, then print a harmless test document from the intended computer. If the queue still targets an old address, correct that specific configuration. Retain the previous details until printing works; a reservation alone does not repair every cause of an offline printer.
