Prepare for a Trusted Quick Assist Session
Quick Assist allows another person to view your Windows screen and, if you permit it, control the PC. Arrange the session with someone you have independently chosen and verified. A support code confirms a connection request; it does not establish that an unexpected caller is trustworthy.
If a popup or unsolicited call claims your PC needs urgent access, do not enter its code. Close the interaction and use contact information you already trust. Remote access should follow your deliberate request for help.
Prepare the screen and the task
Save open work and close banking, password-manager and private-message windows. Clear unnecessary notifications from view. Prepare one harmless example of the problem so the helper can see what fails without browsing unrelated personal files.
Agree on the task and any changes beforehand. For an employer's PC, use the organisation's approved support process. Do not add a remote session to bypass its controls.
Open Quick Assist through Windows. Enter the six-digit code supplied by the verified helper and inspect the connection prompt before allowing screen sharing. Remain at the computer and observe the work. If a password or recovery secret is needed, pause and establish how you will enter it privately rather than dictating it or pasting it into chat.
Separate viewing from control
Quick Assist has a distinct request for full control. Allow that only when it is needed for the agreed task. A helper explaining where to click may not need to operate the PC at all. Stop if the work moves into unrelated accounts, payment demands or changes you do not understand.
When the task is complete, end the session using Leave and confirm the connection has closed. Record what changed, restart if appropriate and repeat the original failing action yourself. If additional remote software was proposed or installed, make sure its purpose and ongoing access were explicitly agreed; completing one support session does not justify unexplained persistent access.
