Read Small Mac Interface Text With Hover Text
When most of the display is comfortable but one menu label or small control is difficult to read, changing the entire screen resolution may be unnecessary. Hover Text offers a more focused way to enlarge text under the pointer.
Try it with familiar content
Open System Settings, Accessibility and locate Hover Text. Apple's current guide describes enabling the feature, placing the pointer over text and holding Command to show an enlarged version. Check the trigger shown in your own settings if it has been customised.
Begin in an ordinary application with a label you can recognise. Move the pointer deliberately, activate the enlargement, read the text and release the trigger. This short exercise helps you learn where the enlarged view appears before using it on a crowded screen.
Settings and related features differ between macOS releases. Use the version selector in Apple's guide if your Mac presents a different layout. Do not assume every newer accessibility option is available on an older installation.
Evaluate the actual reading task
Try the feature in the applications where small text causes difficulty: a Finder information panel, a settings dialogue or a document toolbar. Check whether the enlarged text is useful and whether its position obscures a nearby control you need to select.
If the whole page is difficult to read, consider the application's own text-size or zoom control as a separate adjustment. If text remains small across nearly every application, review broader display and accessibility options. Choose the change that addresses the real pattern.
Keep a note of the activation key, especially on a shared Mac where another person may encounter the enlarged view unexpectedly. Practise returning to the ordinary view without losing your place.
Accessibility settings are personal working preferences. Test comfort and accuracy with the person who uses the computer rather than judging success only by how much information fits on screen.
