Thermal Receipt Printer Feed System: Worn exit roller | Auckland
Pattern to record: Printing completes but pages stall, wrinkle or remain partly inside.
Locate the feed stage
A typical receipt printer feeds a continuous roll with a platen rather than separating stacked sheets. Check roll width, winding direction, cover closure and cutter clearance, if fitted, against the model’s media instructions. An exit-transport fault is one possibility; first confirm whether this model has a separate exit roller, peel assembly or only a platen with an optional cutter.
Before inspecting the mechanism
Switch off and disconnect the printer before hands-on inspection and let the thermal printhead cool. Open only the user-access covers permitted by the model’s instructions. Keep fingers and tools out of any fitted cutter; leave internal mechanisms to a technician.
Feed-path checks
- With power isolated, check the loaded roll’s width, winding direction and accessible media path against the manual. Inspect platen condition and cutter clearance, if a cutter is fitted, only through the permitted access areas.
- A technician should first establish whether the model has a separate exit roller, a peel assembly or only a platen/cutter exit. Any mechanical-freedom or pressure check must follow its service procedure with power isolated, after an upstream obstruction is excluded.
Correct the confirmed cause
If inspection confirms wear and the model has a serviceable exit roller or bushing assembly, a technician can replace the specified part. For a design with only a platen, peel unit or cutter at the exit, diagnose that actual assembly rather than assume a separate exit roller exists. After the fault is corrected and covers are refitted, verification should cover short and long receipts, cuts if a cutter is fitted, cover latching and low-paper behaviour.
