Thermal Receipt Printer Feed System: Foreign object in paper path | Auckland
Pattern to record: The leading edge stops abruptly at a repeatable location.
Locate the feed stage
A typical receipt printer feeds a continuous roll with a platen rather than separating stacked sheets. Check roll width, winding direction, cover closure and cutter clearance, if fitted, against the model’s media instructions. One possible explanation is that a clip, label fragment or torn sheet blocks normal travel.
Before inspecting the mechanism
Switch off and disconnect power before hands-on inspection, and let the thermal head cool. Do not pull paper hard around the platen or sensors. Keep fingers and tools out of any fitted cutter and use its model-specific jam procedure.
Feed-path checks
- With power isolated, confirm roll width and winding direction and inspect the accessible platen and sensors as the manual permits.
- Follow the accessible receipt path without sharp tools. A jam inside a cutter module needs the model’s specified procedure or technician service, not probing through the slot.
Correct the confirmed cause
If the checks support this cause, remove the object and repair any bent guide or sensor. After clearing or repairing the fault and refitting access covers, verification should cover short and long receipts, cuts if a cutter is fitted, cover latch and low-paper behaviour.
