Thermal Receipt Printer Feed System: Does this roll printer use a separation pad?
Pattern to record: Roll media bunches, skews or resists feeding.
Locate the feed stage
A typical receipt printer feeds a continuous roll with a platen rather than separating stacked sheets. Check roll width, winding direction, cover closure and cutter clearance against the model’s media instructions. A separation pad holds back sheets in a stack; a typical continuous-roll printer instead depends on correct roll loading and media tension.
Feed-path checks
- Verify roll width and orientation, inspect platen pressure, sensors and cutter clearance.
- Check the model’s parts layout, roll holder and unwind path before ordering a pad or feed kit.
Before inspecting the mechanism
The thermal head may be hot and the cutter can move automatically. Adding friction tape to the media path can contaminate the printhead and sensors.
Correct the confirmed cause
If the checks support this cause, correct the documented roll loading or replace the specific worn guide, holder or platen identified. Verification should cover short and long receipts, repeated cuts, cover latch and low-paper behaviour.
