Workstation Firmware and POST: TPM state conflict | Auckland
Pattern to record: A recovery-key prompt follows a firmware or hardware change.
Record the boot configuration
Workstations may have multiple memory channels, add-in storage controllers and protected array settings. Record the installed layout and diagnostic code; preserve RAID configuration when reducing the machine to a supported test configuration. One possible explanation is that stored platform measurements no longer match encryption or security expectations.
Preserve recovery options
Do not initialise storage controllers or clear security data during basic POST diagnosis. Clearing the TPM without keys can lock away encrypted data.
Firmware and hardware checks
- Use diagnostic codes and minimum supported configuration while preserving RAID and security settings.
- Confirm recovery credentials and review the precise change before resetting anything.
Recovery and startup checks
If the checks support this cause, restore the intended firmware state or re-enrol security using authorised credentials. Verification should cover cold boot, all memory channels, storage controller state, expansion devices and sustained work.
