Business PC Secure Boot System: Depleted RTC battery | Auckland
Pattern to record: Time and firmware settings reset after mains or main-battery power is removed.
Record the boot configuration
A managed business PC may depend on an approved Secure Boot policy, TPM state and recovery credentials. Record the exact warning and recent change before resetting firmware or replacing hardware. One possible explanation is that the low-power cell can no longer retain clock and setup data.
Preserve recovery options
Security resets can make encrypted data inaccessible without recovery credentials. Some laptops use rechargeable or cabled cells that must not be substituted blindly.
Firmware and hardware checks
- Record encryption status and approved policy before changing TPM or Secure Boot settings.
- Measure the cell and confirm settings persist with a known replacement.
Recovery and startup checks
If the checks support this cause, replace the correct cell and restore documented settings. Verification should cover authorised sign-in, restart, updates, encryption status and managed applications.
