Compare a Windows App’s Graphics Preference on a PC With Multiple GPUs
A Windows 11 PC with more than one graphics processor may offer a graphics preference for an individual application. That is worth evaluating when one program has a particular performance or power-use requirement. It is not a reason to change unrelated applications at the same time.
Choose a short, repeatable task: a known project view, a local video section or a fixed game scene. Record what is unsatisfactory and how you will judge improvement. “Feels different” is less useful than a repeatable pause, an export duration or a visible rendering problem.
Set a preference for the intended app
Open Settings, System, Display, Graphics. Under Custom options for apps, select the intended program and open Options. Microsoft documents graphics preferences for PCs with multiple GPUs, including letting Windows decide, Power saving and High performance.
Record the existing choice. Select the preference to test, save it, and restart the application. A window left open from before the change is not a clean comparison of the new choice.
Check that you selected the application which performs the work. A launcher with a similar name may be a different program. If the expected application or hardware choice is missing, consult its current guidance rather than substituting a random executable.
Keep the comparison controlled
Use the same project, display connection and power condition before and after. Keep the application’s own quality settings unchanged. Give any background download or update time to finish before making a timing comparison.
Inspect correctness as well as speed: text, colour, image effects and completed output should remain acceptable. A faster operation with a new visual defect is not a successful result for that workflow.
If the change offers no useful improvement or introduces problems, restore the recorded preference and restart the app again. Keep a short note of the app version, workload and accepted setting. This makes a later driver or application update easier to evaluate without carrying an unexplained global change forward.
