USB-C Docking Monitor: EDID communication fault | Auckland
Pattern to record: Resolution options are wrong or detection repeatedly fails.
Separate the panel from the source
Test video, USB data and laptop charging separately on a USB-C monitor. Success in one function does not prove that the same cable, host port and monitor can support the others. One possible explanation is that the source cannot read the monitor's supported modes correctly.
Display-path checks
- Test every function with a known full-featured cable and compare other inputs.
- Read identification data through multiple known inputs and sources.
Handling and electrical safety
Not every USB-C cable carries video or the monitor's full charging power. Forcing unsupported timings can obscure the original fault.
Image and input verification
If the checks support this cause, repair the communication line or restore correct monitor firmware data. Verification should cover video, USB, charging, Ethernet if fitted, sleep and cable reconnection.
