Desktop LED Monitor: Backlight driver fault | Auckland
Pattern to record: Brightness pulses or shuts down while the image signal remains present.
Separate the panel from the source
This guide concerns an LCD monitor with LED illumination. Compare the monitor’s own on-screen menu with an external image; a defect visible on the menu is different from a problem limited to one cable or source. One possible explanation is that the power stage cannot regulate current for the panel illumination.
Display-path checks
- Test another source and cable, open the on-screen menu and separate panel, backlight and input faults.
- Compare brightness commands, driver output and LED load behaviour.
Handling and electrical safety
Monitor power boards can contain hazardous voltage and retained charge. Bypassing protection can overheat the panel lighting.
Image and input verification
If the checks support this cause, repair the failed driver stage after excluding a shorted LED load. Verification should cover all inputs, native resolution, brightness range, sleep wake and extended display.
