Match a Firefox Crash Report to the Failure You Need Help With
A crash report is most useful when it corresponds to the failure you are describing. Write down the approximate time, what Firefox was doing and whether the whole browser closed or only a tab failed. Keep that observation separate from any explanation of the cause.
Find the matching event
If Firefox opens, enter about:crashes in the address bar. Compare the listed reports with your recorded time. Mozilla distinguishes submitted crash reports from reports that remain unsubmitted. A local pending report is not automatically available for another person to inspect online.
For an already submitted report, use View and wait for the report page to process. Record its Report ID, typically beginning with bp-, alongside the event time. Check that you selected the intended incident rather than an older failure with a similar symptom.
If Firefox cannot start, Mozilla documents a Crash Reports folder with pending and submitted subfolders. Use the instructions for the actual operating system to locate an existing submitted identifier; avoid deleting or moving the browser profile as part of collecting evidence.
Review any new submission
The Mozilla Crash Reporter offers a choice about sending the crash summary. Its Details view shows technical contents, and including the page address is a separate option. Mozilla also warns that comments attached to a report are publicly visible.
Before submitting an unsubmitted report, review those choices and the organisation’s support requirements. Keep passwords, customer material and private document names out of public comments. If submission is unsuitable, tell support that the report remains local rather than claiming a usable public ID exists.
Provide the matching identifier with the reproduction sequence and steps already tried. A crash signature can support investigation, but it does not by itself prove a hardware fault or identify a particular extension as responsible. After a proposed correction, repeat the relevant task and record whether a new crash occurs; the absence of one old report is not the acceptance test.
