High-Refresh Gaming Monitor: Backlight driver fault | Auckland
Pattern to record: Brightness pulses or shuts down while the image signal remains present.
Separate the panel from the source
Record resolution, refresh rate, colour mode and whether variable refresh is enabled. These determine link demand. Backlight and LCD edge-bond checks below apply only to LCD models, not to an OLED display. The power stage cannot regulate current for the panel illumination; this particular explanation requires a compatible LCD panel design and does not establish a fault in an OLED model.
Display-path checks
- Compare native and lower refresh rates, different certified cables and another graphics source.
- Compare brightness commands, driver output and LED load behaviour.
Handling and electrical safety
Stop testing if the monitor emits a burning smell or flashes from its power section. Bypassing protection can overheat the panel lighting.
Image and input verification
If the checks support this cause, repair the failed driver stage after excluding a shorted LED load. Verification should cover native refresh, lower refresh, variable refresh, colour, sleep and sustained gaming.
