High-Refresh Gaming Monitor: Open backlight LED string | Auckland
Pattern to record: A faint image is visible with a torch while normal illumination is absent.
Separate the panel from the source
Record resolution, refresh rate, colour mode and whether variable refresh is enabled. These determine link demand. Backlight and LCD edge-bond checks below apply only to LCD models, not to an OLED display. One LED or connection has interrupted current through a backlight section; this particular explanation requires a compatible LCD panel design and does not establish a fault in an OLED model.
Display-path checks
- Compare native and lower refresh rates, different certified cables and another graphics source.
- Confirm video is present and test backlight drive under controlled conditions.
Handling and electrical safety
Stop testing if the monitor emits a burning smell or flashes from its power section. Backlight circuits can generate high voltage even in an LED monitor.
Image and input verification
If the checks support this cause, replace the failed backlight assembly or matched panel component. Verification should cover native refresh, lower refresh, variable refresh, colour, sleep and sustained gaming.
