Laser Printer Paper Feed System: Blocked paper sensor | Auckland
Pattern to record: A jam message remains even when the visible path is empty.
Locate the feed stage
Record the tray and the position of the sheet’s leading edge when it stops. Pickup, separation, duplex return and fuser exit are different stages; a jam message alone does not identify which roller failed. One possible explanation is that dust, scraps or adhesive prevent a flag from returning to its normal position.
Feed-path checks
- Note the leading edge position, inspect sensors and rollers and compare each tray.
- Trace the jam location and operate the sensor gently with power removed.
Before inspecting the mechanism
Fuser areas can remain hot long after printing stops. Forcing a thin plastic flag can break it.
Correct the confirmed cause
If the checks support this cause, remove contamination or replace the damaged sensor or flag. Verification should cover single and multi-page jobs, every tray, duplex if fitted, different paper weights and exit.
