Mac mini Startup Power System: Liquid-related startup corrosion | Auckland
Pattern to record: The fault changes over time and contamination is visible near a desktop connector or board area.
Use the correct Mac power design
Identify the Mac mini generation and its specified power connection. Recent models use a mains lead; older designs may use an external supply. The USB-C ports are not a substitute for the desktop’s power input. One possible explanation is that residue has damaged fine startup or power-management conductors.
Power and data precautions
Mains-powered supplies contain hazardous sections and retained charge. Powering a contaminated Mac accelerates corrosion and may reduce data-recovery options.
Model-specific checks
- Verify the model-specific power lead or external supply, then separate power, startup and display-output stages.
- Disconnect power, document affected areas and test conductors after controlled cleaning.
Repair and startup verification
If the checks support this cause, repair verified corroded traces and components, then test all affected functions. Verification should cover cold and warm start, all display outputs, USB load, sleep and sustained operation.
