MacBook Pro Apple-Silicon Power Path: Charger profile mismatch | Auckland
Pattern to record: Charging is slow or absent with one adapter but normal with a verified supported unit.
Use the correct Mac power design
MacBook Pro charging requirements vary by model and workload. Compare the supported adapter and cable with the installed configuration, and note whether the problem is confined to one charging port or appears on every supported path. One possible explanation is that the connected adapter cannot provide the voltage or power profile expected by the Mac.
Power and data precautions
Stop high-load testing if the charger connection or board area becomes unusually hot. Plug shape alone does not prove wattage or protocol compatibility.
Model-specific checks
- Compare supported ports, charger profiles, battery condition and board current behaviour.
- Compare charger identity, cable rating and negotiated input on every supported port.
Repair and startup verification
If the checks support this cause, replace the incompatible or failed adapter or cable after the Mac-side path is confirmed. Verification should cover all charging ports, full-power operation, battery transition, sleep and shutdown.
