Make a Mouse Button Do the Intended Action in Each App
A programmable mouse can intentionally assign different actions to the same physical button in different applications. If that behaviour is unexpected, inspect its profiles before assuming that the button is failing.
Reproduce the difference safely
Choose two applications where the button behaves differently. Use a disposable document or an ordinary page with no unsaved form, and record the action in each. Avoid testing on a live customer record or a screen where a back command could discard work.
For supported MX Anywhere 3 and 3S mice, Logitech documents button customisation in Logi Options+. Its guide distinguishes the general application selection from settings assigned to a specific app. The programmable controls are shown in the device's Buttons view.
Open the current profile for the application that surprises you. Check whether the action comes from that profile or the general setting. A familiar global assignment does not prove that every app uses it.
Change one assignment and check its scope
Write down the existing action before changing it. Select the intended app and assign a simple action you can test without risk. Return to that application, focus the disposable document and press the button once.
Then switch to the comparison app and repeat the check. Confirm that the change has the scope you intended. If several input utilities are installed, record that fact and avoid configuring the same button in all of them at once.
For a frequently used shortcut, practise enough to confirm that it behaves predictably after changing windows. A copy, paste, undo or meeting control can have consequences when the wrong application has focus, even if the mouse profile is working as designed.
Keep essential controls consistent where practical and reserve specialised mappings for a clear purpose. If a new assignment creates confusion, restore the recorded setting. The completion test is reliable behaviour in the actual applications you use, rather than a successful click in the configuration utility.
