Paste Web Text Into a Work Document Without Carrying Its Styling
Text copied from a website can bring oversized headings, unusual fonts or coloured backgrounds into a work document. A plain-text paste removes that presentation layer. It still needs inspection, especially when the source contains tables, links or numbered instructions.
Start with a small selection whose boundaries are clear. Copy only the paragraph or list you need, then place the cursor in a disposable area of the destination document. This makes it easier to compare the result before replacing anything already written.
Choose the plain-text action
With Advanced Paste enabled in PowerToys, open its window using the configured shortcut; Microsoft's default is Windows+Shift+V. Inspect the clipboard preview where available and choose the plain-text action. Microsoft describes non-AI paste actions as local operations; an AI provider is not required for this formatting task.
Use the destination document's own paragraph style afterwards. This establishes a consistent appearance without asking a transformation tool to rewrite the wording. If the selected text is wrong, copy the intended passage again instead of editing an unrelated clipboard item into shape.
Check what formatting used to communicate
Compare the pasted wording with the source. Review paragraph boundaries, bullets and numbered steps. A table may lose the visual relationships that made its rows and columns meaningful, so a sentence can look readable while its values are no longer paired correctly.
Check hyperlinks separately. The visible link label may survive while the destination address is no longer attached. If the reference matters, add the correct address deliberately and test it. Preserve attribution where the source or your organisation requires it.
For material with complex tables or equations, use the application's appropriate import or paste option and verify that structure directly. Plain text is useful when removing styling is the actual goal; it is not a universal document converter. Finish by reading the edited paragraph in context and undo the paste if its meaning or sequence has changed.
