Workstation Firmware and POST: Incorrect boot mode | Auckland
Pattern to record: The drive is detected but no valid boot option is offered.
Record the boot configuration
Workstations may have multiple memory channels, add-in storage controllers and protected array settings. Record the installed layout and diagnostic code; preserve RAID configuration when reducing the machine to a supported test configuration. One possible explanation is that legacy and UEFI expectations do not match the installed operating system.
Preserve recovery options
Do not initialise storage controllers or clear security data during basic POST diagnosis. Changing disk layout before backup can make recovery harder.
Firmware and hardware checks
- Use diagnostic codes and minimum supported configuration while preserving RAID and security settings.
- Compare partition style, boot files and current firmware mode without converting the disk.
Recovery and startup checks
If the checks support this cause, restore the correct boot mode or repair the matching boot files. Verification should cover cold boot, all memory channels, storage controller state, expansion devices and sustained work.
