Export a Mac Shortcut Without Passing Along Your Personal Parameters
A shortcut that works on your Mac may contain your address, a particular contact or a playlist name. Exporting it unchanged can hand those assumptions to somebody else. Review the actions and their parameters before preparing the file.
In the shortcut editor, open Details and Setup, add a new import question and select the relevant available parameter. Write a question that explains what the recipient should supply. Apple says the original value in a field covered by an import question is cleared when shared, and the recipient’s answer fills it when the shortcut runs.
Check every action, including branches that your usual test does not reach. Adding one question does not scrub unrelated text, credentials or other personal values elsewhere in the workflow. Avoid placing your private value in the optional default answer.
Choose the export audience knowingly
Select the shortcut and choose File, Export. Give the file a clear name and choose its destination. The For menu offers Anyone, which sends Apple a copy for validation against tampering, or People Who Know Me, which includes your contact information and limits running to people who have you in their contacts.
Choose according to the intended handover. Neither label means that every action is suitable for the recipient’s files or accounts. Apple separately warns that it cannot verify the authenticity or behaviour of privately shared shortcuts.
Rehearse with harmless inputs
Have the intended recipient inspect the actions before a test run. Explain any action that sends information, changes files or requires an account. Use a disposable example and review the import answers before allowing an action with real effects.
When Shortcuts requests data access, choose the appropriate permission deliberately. Allow Once supports a limited test; Always Allow changes what will be asked next time. A permission prompt is part of the review, not an obstacle to dismiss automatically.
Confirm that the result uses the recipient’s intended details and that no unexpected destination appears. Keep a brief description of required apps and expected output with the exported file. The handover is complete when the workflow’s meaning transfers along with its actions.
