USB-C Docking Monitor: Power-supply capacitor deterioration | Auckland
Pattern to record: Startup is delayed, brightness pulses or the display improves after warming.
Separate the panel from the source
Test video, USB data and laptop charging separately on a USB-C monitor. Success in one function does not prove that the same cable, host port and monitor can support the others. One possible explanation is that aged capacitors no longer smooth the monitor's internal supply rails.
Display-path checks
- Test every function with a known full-featured cable and compare other inputs.
- Measure ripple and startup behaviour with safe isolation procedures.
Handling and electrical safety
Not every USB-C cable carries video or the monitor's full charging power. Mains capacitors can retain dangerous charge after unplugging.
Image and input verification
If the checks support this cause, replace the failed rated components and inspect heat-stressed areas. Verification should cover video, USB, charging, Ethernet if fitted, sleep and cable reconnection.
For an assessment of your USB-C monitor, contact AEPC in Burswood or call 027 908 8880. Provide the model and the conditions that reproduce this problem. Workshop visits are by appointment.
