Workstation Firmware and POST: Failed memory training data | Auckland
Pattern to record: Cold boot loops before POST but may succeed after several attempts.
Record the boot configuration
Workstations may have multiple memory channels, add-in storage controllers and protected array settings. Record the installed layout and diagnostic code; preserve RAID configuration when reducing the machine to a supported test configuration. One possible explanation is that saved timing information no longer matches installed memory or current conditions.
Preserve recovery options
Do not initialise storage controllers or clear security data during basic POST diagnosis. Increased voltage is not a safe substitute for compatibility.
Firmware and hardware checks
- Use diagnostic codes and minimum supported configuration while preserving RAID and security settings.
- Return memory settings to baseline and test supported modules individually.
Recovery and startup checks
If the checks support this cause, clear only the training data or replace incompatible memory after confirmation. Verification should cover cold boot, all memory channels, storage controller state, expansion devices and sustained work.
